FU Signature Guitar
The precious signature model - not just for fans of the band Die Ärzte
How it all began...
The first contact with Farin Urlaub was made by my long-time friend Rod, whom I had provided rooms of my former workshop in 1993 to rehearse with his new bandmates for the “Die Ärzte Reunion Tour”. Farin liked my guitars a lot and soon he had his first Cyan Custom guitar built by me: The Black Hawk. Other models followed, such as the Red or White Hawk, the Two Tone or the FU Studio guitar.
Farin Urlaub became a loyal customer, with whom I still turn every crazy idea into reality. This also resulted in particularly unusual stage guitars such as the sounding tennis racket “Top Spin” or the fire-spitting Sylt guitar for the Die Ärzte song “Westerland”..
After building a variety of Farin Urlaub custom guitars and many clients requesting to purchase them, I had the idea to develop a Farin Urlaub Signature guitar. This should not only be played by the artist himself, but also available to all the Die Ärzte fans and guitar lovers. Being able to build a signature guitar is a great honour and of course means to live up to the name of the artist. That is why my ambition for the development of this new model was particularly high. The Farin Urlaub signature guitar with a semi-solid body made of swamp ash and maple top was painted with a noble black metallic high-gloss finish and equipped with special custom parts such as the skull, the engraved pickguard and the engraved custom potis.
Farin was thrilled and immediately blessed the first prototype of the FU Signature Guitar. Meanwhile, he has played this guitar at hundreds of concerts. Thus, the sound of the Farin Urlaub Signature guitar has become the unmistakable live sound of Farin Urlaub and Die Ärzte.
The first edition of the FU Signature guitar series was limited to 99 copies and sold worldwide. From Germany, Austria, Switzerland to the USA and Australia. After the first sold-out, limited series, there is now the further development of the Farin Urlaub Signature guitar available, the FU Signature 18+. The finish received a dash of metallic and all aluminium custom parts are now made of polished, hardened aluminum in silk gloss, as with the old Black Hawk nut. Sound identical, but in a new outfit.
This guitar contains my entire experience from 30 years of guitar making, my passion, my love and attention to detail and of course my deepest respect for the artist Farin Urlaub..
FU Signature 18+
The FU Signature Guitar is the live guitar of Farin Urlaub. It is a repoduction of the first Farin Urlaub guitar – the Black Hawk – but in a redesigned version with slightly altered look, more playing comfort, but with the same, unmistakable sound.
The Farin Urlaub Signature guitar is one of the finest instruments from Cyan and, like all Cyan Custom guitars, was made entirely by hand. It features a bird’s-eye maple neck with ebony fretboard, a swamp ash body with maple top, a vintage tremolo and two humbuckers. The Megadrive bridge pickup has a medium output but delivers excellent rhythm sounds. Another Düsenberg Grand Vintage pickup at the neck and finished is the dream combo. This guitar, painted with a noble black high-gloss finish, becomes a unique instrument thanks to its special custom parts, such as the skull, the engraved pickguard and the engraved custom potis.
The first series of the FU Signature guitar is already sold out and is now replaced by the second, slightly tuned series, the FU Signature 18+. The black finish gets a dash of metallic and all aluminium custom parts are made of polished, hardened aluminum in silk gloss, as with the old Black Hawk mother
.Due to the elaborate construction, only a maximum of 6 pieces of this noble FU Signature 18+ guitar series are produced annually. In consultation with the artist, the FU Signature 18+ is available at a very special price, just like its predecessor.

Black Hawk - The sacred cow of Farin Urlaub
The Black Hawk is the first guitar I built for Farin Urlaub in 1993. When developing the shape, we were inspired by a Gretsch semi-acoustic guitar. Meanwhile, the Black Hawk has long since become a cult guitar and was played by Farin Urlaub on thousands of Die Ärzte concerts. Since I don’t remain in standstill and the requests to buy a Die Ärzte guitar were increasing, I developed the Farin Urlaub Signature Guitar series, that is available for everybody.
A reproduction of the Black Hawk, but in a revised version with a slightly different look, even more playing comfort, but same, unmistakable sound.
Holy cows are untouchable.
